Roelof-Jan (RJ) Steenstra, Chief Executive Officer for the Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA), has been fostering sustainable and vibrant airport communities for more than 8 years. Since joining in 2016, RJ has been leading the FMAA through a significant economic downturn, due largely in part to lower oil prices and impacts from the Horse River wildfire.
Prior to the FMAA, RJ was Chief Executive Officer at the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority. During his tenure, the airport experienced four years of revenue growth, attracted a regional and national air carrier and underwent a significant airport development program.
RJ serves in a leadership capacity on a number of industry and community boards including: Airport Council International – North America; Northwest Chapter - American Association of Airport Executives and the Small Airport Caucus of the Canadian Airports Council.
RJ holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Anthropology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Calgary, along with a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Royal Roads University.
